Herman Cerrato was born in Granada, Nicaragua. Then moved to Miami, Florida in 1978. As a young entrepreneur he was involved in a number of ventures looking for the fulfillment of life in the business world. He found that none of his achievement brought more pleasure than creating art. In 1982 at age of 22 he was introduce to the tile industry as a tile helper for a not so friendly installer, The lack of quality and cheap work of this individual left young Herman with a bad taste of the industry. He moved into others jobs and totally forgot about the industry, but it's was until 10 years later that his brother asked him to help install some 200 square foot of tile in a house he was remodeling, The job turned out great, Herman saved all the left over pieces of tiles and in his spare time cut those pieces into small squares and triangles to later put them together to create art. Soon after he met a master mosaicists in Miami that guided him into the right path. Then in 1998 he moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and worked as a tile installer and just like in Florida he saved pieces and samples tiles to cut them up and make mosaics, his first mosaic in Myrtle Beach for a customer was a coffee grinder for a backsplash, Herman was so excited he could not believe he finally sold a piece of artwork. That little mosaic opened up his creative wings to make hundreds of others custom mosaics to high-end communities like Grande Dunes, Plantation Lakes, Debordiuer Colony, Heritage, the gates, and others fine communities along the Grand Strand. Herman truly pioneered the mosaic art in Myrtle Beach, as a matter of fact he is the only mosaic artist to have a dedicated mosaics showroom in the State of S.C, Some people have tried to copy his success but they lack the essence of desire to sell a piece of artwork instead of a product and that is what Herman is all about a piece of artwork in your floor or walls. Everytime he's commisioned a large or small custom mosaic the excitement is the same like the Coffee Grinder he made in 1998. To see some of Herman's finer pieces please check out noble work of art every pieces is unique, custom, elaborated and fabricated with the same excitement, dedication and love for the art of mosaics.
